FHIA-18:
Type of material: Hybrid
ITC number: 1319
Tolerance to
pests and diseases:
This variety has been only recently introduced in the region and no incidence of pests and diseases
has been recorded to now. As this variety it a full sibling of FHIA-01, we expect it to be a very
robust variety, with good potential for Kagera.
General acceptance and performance:
The first stools have been established recently on field nurseries. The pseudostems are generally short,
less than 3 meters high.
Direct and indirect diffusion:
FHIA-18 has been introduced for the first time by KCDP in 2000 in the Kagera region.
A total of 1,108 in-vitro plants have been received from KULeuven in 2001. The variety is yet to be diffused to farmers.
