Tolerance to pests and diseases:

No incidences of weevils or nematodes have been recorded. However, this variety is severely attacked by Fusarium Wilt race 1.


General acceptance and performance:

Because of its high susceptibility to Fusarium race 1, this variety is not multiplied and diffused in Kagera region. According to a few palatability tests, this variety is suitable for brewing.

The average bunch weigh is 28 Kg with a minimum and maximum recorded weight of 21 and 32 Kg respectively (11 bunches harvested).


Direct and indirect diffusion:

Bita-2 has been introduced first in the region by KCDP in 1999. A total of 12 in-vitro plants have been received from KULeuven.
